DEMONS: Good & Bad | An Interdisciplinary Conference

Date: You need to load the T4EventsCalendar Class 28 Oct 2022
Time: 09:00 - 17:00

An interdisciplinary conference organised by the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies and funded by the Trinity Long Room Hub Research Incentive Scheme. Demonology has been significant in human life throughout history and is of continuous relevance for multiple aspects of human life. Its scope of influence spans from ancient to contemporary times, and applies to multiple disciplines, such as religion, arts, environmental studies, or medicine. Appropriately juxtaposed with Halloween 2022, the Demons: Good and Bad conference will explore the ambivalence of demons, e.g., in terms of their perceived spatial location, morality, physical essence, and functionality; their decline and rise in recent times; and implications of their perceived presence in multiple aspects of human life. The full conference programme is available at this link. Please note that the Keynote Address by Prof. Julian Goodare (University of Edinburgh), will be on Day 1, Thursday 27th October at 4.00–5.30pm: “How to Rule a Magical World: Europe, 1400–1700.” Register here.
