Research Assistant- Samuel C. Rogers
Born and raised on a small island in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, I am very excited to be here in Dublin and starting my PhD in International Peace Studies. After returning from North Macedonia where I served in the Peace Corps in 2018, I began building my research interests through a Masters in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) at The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a M. Phil in International Peace Studies here in the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies.
My central concern is a critical examination of states’ policies of military conscription. Through my work, I hope to foreground the human and felt dimensions of conflict as matters of central relevance to peacebuilding, challenging state-centric conceptions of security. Past projects both at Tufts and Trinity focused on abuses committed within conscription regimes and the brutalization of the male body through militarization. In my doctoral research, I hope to explore the intersection of military conscription, masculinities, and displacement. By developing a more comprehensive empirical understanding of the very human and felt dimensions of armed conflict, I hope my project will assist in developing more versatile and responsive frameworks for peacebuilding.
