Healthy commuting

Smarter Travel Trinity

Trinity is working with the National Transport Authority to make Smarter Travel easier for students and staff.  We aim to make walking, cycling, using public transport or car pooling a simpler option for people. More details here.

Ever Thought About Cycling to College?

Here’s ten Good Reasons to get started!

  1. Cycling improves strength and stamina
  2. It gives you a permanent basic level of fitness
  3. Cycling burns calories – around 500–700 calories per hour.
  4. It helps to tone your bum and hips
  5. It helps to shed unwanted pounds (especially good for the summer)
  6. It improves balance and coordination
  7. It helps to reduce stress
  8. It hones your reaction time
  9. It gives you a sense of well being
  10. It wakes you up on the way to work!

If you live within 6 km of College cycling may be quicker than going by car, waiting for slow buses or ones that never come…

The Dublin Transport Office (dto.ie) provides a journey planner facility on its web-site so potential commuting cyclists can plot their best route to and from work or college.

The Dublin Cycling Campaign (connect.ie/dcc/) has been working since the early 1990s to encourage cycling and to represent the interests of everyday commuting cyclists.

Did you know...?

  1. Sometimes people worry about being safe while cycling but figures show that cyclists in Dublin experience about half as many injuries as pedestrians
  2. During the wettest months it rains 8% of the time. During the dries months it rains 4.5% of the time (this isn’t necessarily when you are commuting!
