Update from TCD UniCoV Team to staff and students

30 November 2021

Dear College community,

As you are aware COVID-19 cases have been increasing across the country, and unfortunately, the need for COVID-19 detection and control will remain with us for some time. Moreover, it is possible to be positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection and yet asymptomatic. Therefore, we are encouraging students and staff to consider participating in UniCoV which offers free regular COVID-19 lateral flow antigen testing and saliva LAMP PCR testing twice a week. Such tests assist with the early identification of SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as the omicron variant, thereby helping to stop the spread of the virus. This will help protect yourself, your household and your community against COVID-19.

In a change to the current programme offering, COVID-19 lateral flow antigen test kits and saliva sampling kits will be available for collection from kiosks located in the Arts Building Concourse and Hamilton/Panoz Building between the hours of 11.30am – 3.30pm daily from today. We will open another location shortly inTrinity Hall Dartry and will advise the residents separately. The Trinity Centres in St. James’s and Tallaght will retain current arrangements.

Saliva samples for LAMP PCR testing are collected from stations at 11am on both Mondays and Thursdays and are tested same day. Samples can be deposited at any time. However, providing samples closer to the collection time ensures any positive cases are flagged in a timelier manner.

Remember, testing alone does not stop transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and development of COVID-19. Please continue to follow the latest public health guidance.

To register for the programme, further details are available below and through the TCD UniCoV website. Please address any issues to the TCD UniCoV team via the following email: unicov@tcd.ie

Sincerely,

TCD UniCoV Team
