Update from College Secretary to students and staff

24 March 2020

Dear Students and Staff,

I hope you are well. I am writing to you following the Government’s confirmation that universities will now remain closed until April 19 at the earliest. The decision was part of a set of measures announced this afternoon aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19. The Minister of Education Joe McHugh has indicated that he will give further details around schools and universities in the next 48 hours.

We will write to you with further information once the Minister has made his announcement. In the meantime, I would like to remind you that college is now almost completely closed to anybody other than residents and a very small number of researchers and staff in essential services. It is important to note that lectures are continuing online and we will be carrying out exams and assessments online in the coming weeks.

Please do look after both your physical and mental health. You can contact the College Health Centre by phone on  01 896 1591 or 01 896 1556 (9.30am-12pm and 2-4pm). College Counselling  can be reached on counselling@tcd.ie to request a call back.

The Trinity web page https://www.tcd.ie/about/coronavirus/ is updated regularly with information and new Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have a query which is not answered in the FAQs, there is also a central email coronavirus@tcd.ie which is staffed every day.

Advice and information from Trinity’s Health, Counselling, Human Resources and Sports teams on how to stay healthy during the Covid-19 closure of Trinity can be found herewww.tcd.ie/healthytrinity

Yours sincerely,

John Coman
Secretary to the College
