Profile
Dr Deirdre Byrne was a post-doctoral researcher with the SynthSCS Project until Feb 2021. Deirdre completed an Irish Research Council funded sociology based doctorate in 2016 - Around the table: food work in children’s residential care services in Ireland. Prior to academia she worked in social care in various settings including Womens Aid and Traveller Development Projects. Her research interests include: social justice, mental health, the sociologies of food, young people and home, the ethic of care and family care. Deirdre has also lectured in research methods and health and society on the Social Care and Early Childhood Care and Education courses at Sligo IT. She has worked as a freelance researcher with Sligo and Waterford Institutes of Technology and with community groups.
