Travel Bursary Report April 2023 - Sarah Coughlan

Sarah is a PhD candidate and a member of the Infant and Child Research Lab in the School of Psychology at Trinity College Dublin.

The TRiSS Travel Bursary allowed me to attend the 18th World Congress of the World Association for Infant Mental Health (WAIMH).

Across the 5 days of this congress, I was able to attend a variety of thought-provoking keynote lectures, symposia, and workshops which were highly relevant to my PhD research. During the coffee breaks between these scheduled activities, I also had the chance to network and engage in stimulating discussions with both esteemed and early-career researchers in my field.

During the poster sessions, I had the opportunity to present part of my PhD research. My poster, which was titled “Understanding the Parent-Infant Conversations and Language Development of Preterm- and Term-born Infants in Ireland”, served as a catalyst for constructive conversations with my fellow attendees. The feedback that I received during this poster session proved to be invaluable when finalising the study for inclusion in my thesis. Thanks to this constructive feedback, this study has now also been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
