Helen Malone

Biography

Helen Evelyn Malone holds the position of Research Assistant Professor. She obtained a PhD and MSc both from Trinity College Dublin, and a Nurse Tutor qualification from University College Dublin. She is a State Registered General Nurse (SRN), State Certified Midwife (SCM) and is registered on three divisions of the Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board, An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na héireann:Tutors, general and midwives. She has previously held the post of Research Fellow, School of Nursing and Midwifery Trinity College Dublin. She has experience as a staff nurse in the clinical areas of medical nursing, surgical nursing and the care of children and young persons with intellectual disability. Helen has undertaken recent research work in collaboration with researchers in our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin Dublin, St. Vincent's Hospital Fairview, Dublin and the Children's University Hospital Temple Street, Dublin. Recent Research focus: The development of a parental educational program which will assist parents in the care and management of the mental and emotional needs of children and young persons diagnosed with 22q11 deletion syndrome. Current Research Focus: Lead author, Cochrane Systematic Review: Interventions for promoting participation in shared decision-making for children with cystic fibrosis. This review is at protocol stage and is registered with the Cochrane Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorder Group, Institute of Child Health, University of Liverpool, UK. She has acted as manuscript reviewer for Annals of Public Health and Research and the Journal of Biology and Life Sciences. She has taught on undergraduate nursing courses and MSc nursing programmes and has acted as examiner on MSc programmes.
