  • Dr Alyt Oppewal is a Human Movement Scientist and obtained her doctorate for her research into the physical fitness of adults with intellectual disabilities at the Chair of Intellectual Disability Medicine, Department of General Practice at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. After that, she continued to work here as a postdoc, and now is an Assistant Professor. Her research line focuses on physical activity and fitness in people with intellectual disabilities, including projects into the effectiveness of physical activity programs and promoting a healthy lifestyle. She is a project leader within the Healthy Ageing and Intellectual Disabilities (HA-ID) consortium, a successful partnership with three healthcare organizations. Within the HA-ID consortium research is conducted into the health of people with intellectual disabilities (from young to old) to promote their well-being, independence and self-management. In addition, Alyt works as a teacher at the Specialist Training for Intellectual Disability Medicine at the Erasmus MC.
