Date: You need to load the T4EventsCalendar Class 7 Sep 2023
Time: 14:00 - 16:00

An in-person launch of the Centre for Economics, Policy and History (CEPH) and of The Nationalist Dilemma by Marvin Suesse organised by the Centre for Economics, Policy and History at Trinity College Dublin and Queen's University Belfast. In September 2022, the Higher Education Authority of Ireland’s North-South Research programme awarded funding to a team of economic historians to establish a new research centre based between Trinity College Dublin’s Economics Department and Queen’s University Belfast’s Management School. The objective of this new research centre is to establish an all-Ireland centre of excellence in economics, history and policy. CEPH will engage with and promote high-quality, relevant, and informative economic history across three foundational pillars: Data, Outreach, and Research. Given this final pillar, it is fitting that this event will launch both the Centre itself, and an exemplar of the research excellence in economic history. Professor Marvin Suesse, Associate Director of Research for CEPH, will present his new book The Nationalist Dilemma: A Global History of Economic Nationalism, 1776-present, published by Cambridge University Press. Prof. Suesse will take the audience on a whistlestop tour of economic nationalism across over 250 years of global history. Beginning with the foundation of the United States of America in 1776, and the conflicts faced by its founding fathers, he progresses through the nineteenth and into the twentieth century, interweaving case studies from around the world before settling into the twenty-first century and the prospects of economic development in a deglobalising and fragmenting world. This book is an engaging, insightful account of a phenomenon which has only become more relevant in our own times. For more information and registration please click here.
