Amanda Coogan in collaboration with Alvean Jones and Lianne Quigley with Dublin Theatre of the Deaf and the Centre for Deaf Studies Flash Performances Join us at 4pm this Culture Night for a series of flash performances by renowned performance artist Amanda Coogan, Deaf artists Lianne Quigley and Alvean Jones with Dublin Theatre of the Deaf and Trinity’s Centre for Deaf Studies, celebrating Irish Sign Language Awareness Week. These powerful performances will start on the steps of the Centre for Deaf Studies on South Leinster Street. After travelling up Nassau Street to The Douglas Hyde, the group will move through Front Square, to The Douglas Hyde, before moving to Meeting House Square in Temple Bar. There is no booking required and all are welcome to join at any stage! This event is a unique preview of a live exhibition opening this October at The Douglas Hyde. 'Freude! Freude!' translates Ludwig van Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ chorus into Irish Sign Language (ISL) and reinterprets the entire Ninth Symphony through the lens of the Deaf experience. Using ISL as a choreographic language, Coogan, Quigley and Jones have worked with DTD and students from the CDS to produce an aural, visual and immersive feast that will be presented through a series of embodied performances and striking installation.
