b'0513.0013.30 The Visibility of Role Models in Trinity CollegeA student-led Q&A session with the Faculty DeansWomen were first admitted to Trinity College in 1904, and we have come a long way since then. Professor Mary McCarron waselected as the first female Faculty Dean in 2012, and 2019 was the first time we have had an all-female cohort of Faculty Deans.Now, as we approach the Provost election in 2021 with an all-female candidature, we discuss the importance of the visibility offemale role models within Trinitys executive and explore what cultural changes we might expect to see as a result.Elizabeth Walsh who was my Professor Gail McElroyscience teacher at school, and Dean of Arts, Humanities and SocialEamon Sweeney the previous Head Sciencesof Pathology here in Trinity College Gail is a Professor in Political Science atwho was my PhD supervisor. Trinity College Dublin. Her primaryresearch interests are in the fields oflegislative behaviour, party politics,Professor Orla Sheils electoral systems and European UnionDean of Health Sciencespolitics. She is also actively involved inthe Irish National Election Study andOrla is from a family of three the Irish Candidates Study and recentbrothers, but being the only girl published work in this area explores the continuedwas not something that she even had under-representation of women in politics.awareness of growing up, everyone was treatedequally and everyone was aorded the sameopportunitieswhether that meant the opportunityto do the same adventurous activities as her brothers,or to do an equal and fair share of the allocatedchores. Her career pathway initially took her intodiagnostic pathology and the science underlyingdisease and later in the direction of medical ethics, asubject and a philosophy which is grounded inequality and justice, something which she strives tobring to every aspect of her work. She considersherself fortunate to have had some very strong rolemodels throughout her career in moleculardiagnostics, which is quite a male-dominated sphere,but that is not something that ever occurred to Orla tobe a barrier. Orla is now a Professor of MolecularDiagnostics in the School of Medicine, and waselected Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2019.'
