b'International Womens Day 2021Visibility of Role ModelsWelcome to International Womens Day 2021 at Trinity College Dublin. The theme of this years event is the Visibility of Role Models. In the wordsof childrens rights activist Mariam Wright Edelman, you cant be whatyou cant see, so we asked ourselveswho are our role models? Are theyvisible? Let us shine a light on some of the women of Trinity College on thisinternational day of celebration. The backdrop to this event is the Athena SWAN Charter, a frameworkwhich is used across the globe to support and transform gender equalitywithin higher education and research. Athena SWAN recognizes goodpractice towards the advancement of gender equality, aiming to removethe barriers to progression for sta and students. Universities are places of learning, of discussion and of debate. We areprivileged to be a part of a community where we can draw on such a widerange of contributors and utilize resources at our disposal in order topresent an event like this. We seek to contribute to and progress thediscussion of gender equality, and highlight the importance of visible rolemodels for all women in our society. We are grateful to each and every one of you who takes the time to join usin these discussions, and hope that you might find some new role models,or better yet that you might recognise in yourselves the importance andvalue you bring to others, because each of you are role models too!'
