12 November 2026. Professor Wolfram Pernice (University of Heidelberg). Opportunities for photonic computing. HMI Seminar Room, Top Floor, House 16, Hamilton Building, TCD; 11 am.

Supported by the Visiting Professor fund from FSTEM, a visit and talk by Professor Wolfram Pernice from the University of Heidelberg was organized by Prof. Kirk Soodhalter (TCD). He will discuss his work in photonic computing and share recent advancements in this exciting field at the intersection of Physics, Computer Science, and Numerical Mathematics.
Abstract: Photonic computing is emerging as a compelling approach to overcoming the limitations of conventional electronic hardware for data-intensive computing tasks. By exploiting the massive parallelism, high bandwidth, and low-latency properties of light, photonic systems offer new opportunities for efficient information processing beyond traditional digital architectures. In this talk, I will highlight recent progress in system integration, scalable photonic hardware platforms, and emerging architectures for next-generation photonic processors.
