Trinity Business School

Linking the hustle and bustle of busy Pearse Street and the calm and quite of our historic campus, the Trinity Business School was officially opened by An Taoiseach Mr. Leo Varadkar on May 23rd 2019. The Trinity Business School is a state-of-the-art building spanning some 11,400m² with 6 stories above ground and 2 below. The building homes lecture theatres, post-graduate office spaces, smart classrooms and a roof top conference room.

The central triangular atrium allows for bright a public space where students and staff can gather to relax, converse and exchange ideas. This foyer features the extraordinary helical staircase and bright artwork as the main focal points.

Sustainability

Sustainability was at the centre of design, accumulating with the building winning the Sustainable Award for a Single Building or Development from the Irish Construction Industry Awards in May 2021.

The key sustainable design principles of the building are low energy building systems (low-velocity air systems and displacement ventilation systems), LED-based lighting, rainwater harvesting and 500 m² of PV panels which will offset 35 tonnes of carbon per annum. The building was also designed to incorporate a number of green walls to benefit from the environmental and psychological benefits generated by the micro-climates they create

Conservation

Part of the project included the renovation and integration of six protected structures on Pearse Street. These Georgian houses were restored to create student accommodation and a restaurant space. Where possible, the existing steelwork was remediated and the historical stair wells were reinstated, as well as reinstating natural slate to the traditional cut roofs. Following conversation guidance best practice to preserve the buildings’ heritage allowed for these buildings to be brought back into use and full of life.

Trinity Business School is both a bold statement of modernity and sensitive response to its surrounding environment, the elevated railway line, the listed Georgian houses and the internal views from the historic core of the campus.
