1st Year
Students
There are two categories for first-year undergraduate students:
- You are applying to Trinity through the CAO Office
- You are applying via my.tcd.ie portal
Applying to Trinity through the CAO Office
CAO applicants are situated in EU/EEA countries, based on residency rather than nationality. CAO applicants must register an account with their CAO number and only apply for rooms at Trinity Hall, which is the designated residence for first-year students.
Applying via my.tcd.ie portal
Applicants applying to Trinity directly via the my.tcd.ie portal are situated in Non-EU/EEA countries, based on residency rather than nationality, or are deferred students. These students must register an account with their Trinity ID/Application number and apply for Trinity Hall and Kavanagh Court/3rd Party Student Accommodation.

Room Allocation
How it works
Trinity Hall
Accommodation in Trinity Hall is open to all Trinity students who are undertaking a full-time undergraduate degree with priority given to Junior Fresher students. Apartments in Trinity Hall would generally consist of mixed genders, nationalities, academic disciplines, and ages.
Students under the age of 18 will in all likelihood be sharing an apartment and/or twin-room with students over 18 years of age. If you have any concerns regarding this, please contact trinity.hall@tcd.ie.
Random Selection
Please note that places at Trinity Hall are not offered on a first to apply, first offered basis. Once the provisional application process has closed on 22nd May, random selection is used by the Warden on all applications. Successful applicants will then receive a ‘provisional place’ offer. If you are successful in getting a place at Trinity following the first round of CAO offers, your supporting statement will be used for your room allocation.
Applicants not selected during the random selection process will be notified and invited to waitlist.

Only final year students are eligible for Trinity campus accommodation. First year undergraduates are housed in Trinity Hall or can apply for 3rd Party PBSA.
Unfortunately, no. Trinity Hall currently houses approximately 850 first year undergraduates, so not all applicants are successful in getting a place in Trinity Hall as we are always oversubscribed.
You can only apply for either Trinity Hall or 3rd Party PBSA.
No, there is neither a deposit nor an application fee charged for Trinity Hall applications. You will however need to pay an advance licence fee to reserve a room at 3rd Party PBSA. More information on this can be found on their website.
Unfortunately if you are studying for a diploma in Dental Nursing you are not eligible to apply for accommodation at Trinity Hall.
You can place an application for Trinity Hall and your application will be considered on the basis that the course will be delivered by Trinity College Dublin the year you are looking for accommodation.
