Dr. Deirdre Flynn is the Principle Investigator (P.I.) of the 3 SET 3rd level services for engagement and transformation Project, funded by the HEA Innovation and Transformation strand. Deirdre is Director of the Student Counselling Services including Student Learning Development and Student2Student at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. She has worked in Higher Education Student Services since 1993 when she was employed to develop Trinity’s Student Counselling Services. She is committed to the development and the provision of quality student services which underpin the academic mission of the HEI and are research based, student centred and collaborative. Deirdre is a registered psychotherapist and supervisor with the Irish Council for Psychotherapy, and a member of the Psychological Counsellors in Higher Education Ireland (PCHEI) the Irish Heads of Student Counselling Forum, the UK Heads of University and College Counselling Group (HUCS) and the US Association of University & College Counselling Center Directors (AUCCCD) . Deirdre initiated the 3SET project and recruited Barbara Dooley (UCD) and Treasa Fox (AIT) and Ralph Astley (TCD) and Chuck Rashleigh (TCD) to work together and to lead different work packages of the project which focus on improving and developing different aspects of student services nationally. As PI she is responsible for the ensuring the delivery of the Project outcomes, over seeing and reporting on the Project outputs, finances, ethical and data compliance with relevant legal and institutional policies and project management practices. Her focus is on supporting the leaders, and establishing and building collaborative relationships within the leadership group, the full project team and with external stakeholders such as PCHEI and the HEA. She works to mobilise the skills and expertise of everyone involved to facilitate the delivery of the project, while encouraging staff/team development and wellbeing.
