What we offer

The Postgraduate Advisory Service exists to ensure that all students have a named person to whom they can turn for support and advice during their stay in College. This service is free for students who are registered at Trinity College. It works on a system of referral through the dedicated Postgraduate Student Support Officer in the Senior Tutor’s Office (phone 01 896 1417, or e-mail pgsupp@tcd.ie)).

While we are here to provide confidential advice on any matter that may impact upon your stay at Trinity, there are some general parameters to what we can do.

The Postgraduate Advisory Service does;

  • Provide general academic advice and personal guidance to postgraduate students.
  • Provide general advice, assistance, and, where appropriate, representation, to postgraduate students in the areas of discipline and/or academic appeals arising out of examinations or other academic circumstances such as supervision.
  • Advise students where they will be able to seek specialist advice and support within College.

The Postgraduate Advisory Service does not;

  • Provide specialist academic advice in any aspect of any given programme of study
  • Undertake any of the primary duties and responsibilities assigned to either your supervisor, course coordinator/director, or director of postgraduate teaching and learning. This includes, but is not limited to the following;
  • Reading your thesis/dissertation either in whole or in part.
  • Dealing with extensions for assignments or research of any kind.
  • Dealing with routine medical certificates for absence through illness either from lectures or examinations.

Further details of the kinds of queries we deal with are available on the Frequently Asked Questions page of this website. If your query is not covered here, please contact us (Email) and we will do our very best to assist you.
