Trinity's first online Master's students graduate on campus
It was a historic day today in Trinity College when two students from the Online Masters in Applied Social Studies became the first online Masters level students to graduate on campus. These students were part of a fully online course and their theses explored diverse themes around working with homeless individuals, and the Irish language within a changing Irish society. Trinity Online would like to congratulate these students on all their hard work and effort.

MOOC research published in the International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning
A new article has been published in the IRRODL by Silvia Gallagher and Ciaran Wallace that explores using Massive Online Open Courses as a generative source for historical research. This multidisciplinary research between Trinity Online and the Department of History investigated the contributions of learners in MOOCs and how some of these could be termed 'oral narratives'. This paper contributes a novel understanding of MOOCs for discipline-specific analysis, provides a framework for MOOC historical resource generation, and describes changing perceptions of learning from the perspective of MOOC learners.

Trinity Online and the Discipline of Physiotherapy announce a new free online course in Exercise Prescription
In this free online course evidence of the role of exercise in the treatment of a variety of clinical populations including people with cardiovascular disease, mental health problems, paediatric conditions and cancer will be studied. Dr Cuisle Forde and Dr Aine Kelly from the disciplines of Physiotherapy and Physiology will be leading the course which begins on the 18th of April.

New Massive Open Online Course in Successful Ageing opens for registration
Trinity Online’s new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Strategies for Successful Ageing opened today for registration on the Futurelearn platform. This five week MOOC will be run in February 2016, and presents world-leading research in successful ageing, which may challenge many of the assumptions you have about growing old. The lead educator on this MOOC is Professor Rose Anne Kenny, head of the Department of Medical Gerontology and founder of the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). Research accepted for eMOOCs conference
A conference paper titled "Exploring learning objectives at scale through concept mapping of MOOC learner discussions" was accepted today for the 4th European MOOCs Stakeholders Summit. The paper explores whether concept mapping through text mining software can help MOOC providers assess whether learners are meeting the learning objectives of the MOOC. 67,557 learner comments from the Trinity College/Futurelearn Irish Lives History MOOC were analysed using Leximancer software, and concept maps based on data extracted were created. These maps were then aligned with pre-defined learning objectives to determine whether this software could be used to better understand learner behaviour in relation to MOOC learner objectives. This research, through observation of the learning process, contributes a new methodology for understanding learning objectives in MOOCs at scale

Trinity Online at the DCU Age Friendly Universities conference
Our collaboration with the Engage Institute on the Strategies for Successful Ageing Massive Online Open Course has resulted in a multidisciplinary presentation at the Age Friendly Universities conference at Dublin City University. The presentation given with Head of Engagement at Engage Sarah Bowman explored "Empowering Older Adults through Online Learning."
