Unit Cost Exercise

Unit Cost Data

Data for input into the Unit Cost Model are forwarded to the Vice Provost's Office which has operational responsibility for the input of all data, including student numbers, course information, and the compilation of contact hour data.

Contact hour data in the form of teaching hours and supervision hours form the basis upon which all most Direct and Allocated Costs (see below) are calculated within the Unit Cost model. The teaching hours data is compiled on the basis of information in the Timetable Information System, supplemented where necessary by data submitted by Heads of Department.
In relation to the supervision of students, an IUA inter-institutional formula assigns an agreed number of supervision hours per student for each category of student and subject grouping, and the allocation of supervision hours is applied within the model.

Financial data are prepared by the Treasurer's Office. 'Usage' data relating to premises, ISS, library non-pay and academic services (Bio Resources, Centre for Microscopy and Analysis, and Innovation Services) are prepared by the relevant offices. The operation of the HEA Unit Cost model is supported by ISS.
