Student Records - Change of Personal Details

Students must complete the appropriate pro-forma to seek approval for a change of name and / or date of birth, or change of address details. Further information regarding the protocols governing each is provided below.

CHANGE OF NAME AND / OR CHANGE OF DATE OF BIRTH

  1. A student's name and date of birth as recorded at the point of admission to Trinity College Dublin is that given on the CAO application / PAC application or direct entry application form, as appropriate.
  2. A student may apply to have their name and / or date of birth changed or corrected by completing the Change of Name / Date of Birth form.
  3. This form should be completed by the student and presented in person to the Student and Graduate Records Office for approval.
  4. Any change or correction of the student's personal details must be supported by official documentation such as
    • valid passport
    • birth certificate
    • marriage certificate
    • certificate of name-change by deed poll

or other documentation deemed acceptable by the Administrative Officer in the Student and Graduate Records Office and must correspond with the documented change request.
  5. If a student is aware of a mistake in their details upon admission to Trinity College Dublin, the appropriate correction may be made during the registration process by the Supervisor of the Student and Graduate Records Office, subject to the completion of the pro-forma together with presentation of the official documentation specified in 4 above. It should be noted that Student ID Cards incorporating the change/corrected name will be obtainable the next working day after the change/correction has been effected.
  6. A student's registered name may not include official titles (eg, Honourable, Lord, Lady, Prince etc.) initials, brackets, or adjuncts (eg, Jnr, Snr, 3rd etc).
  7. In order to facilitate the processing of final examination results and arrangements for Commencements ceremonies, a student's registered name may not be changed after the end of the second week of Hilary Term in the student's final year.
  8. Students are advised that the name under which any grants / visa applications are applied for should correspond with their registered name in Trinity College Dublin. Failure to ensure this could result in difficulty in claiming a grant cheque. Please note that Trinity College Dublin will only certify a student's registration status in their registered name.
