Full Time Student Equivalent Data

Annual calculation and collation of Full-Time Student Equivalent (FTSE) data

Exclusions from FTSE data

The annual FTSE exercise includes almost all registered undergraduate and postgraduate students, for all courses1. Postgraduate research outside of the normal timescale (2 years for Masters level, 4 years for PhD level) are included, but are identified for appropriate exclusion under ARAM in the reports provided to the Treasurer’s Office.

In the 2008-09 data, the category of research students made live for thesis examination has also been excluded from the data for input into the ARAM model. This category represents 236 students who had submitted a thesis which remained under examination as at 1 st March 2009 . It is practice that such students are made ‘live for thesis submission’ on College books while their theses are under examination, to facilitate administrative procedures (i.e. tracking of the examination process).

This exclusion was made subsequent to the presentation of staff:student ratio data included in the Senior Lecturer’s Annual Report 2004-05 and will result in minor discrepancies in this category between the two sets of data for some departments.

  1. The exceptions currently are In-Service Education courses, incoming SOCRATES students, BA Humanities (Distance Education) students, and students on the Trinity Access Programmes.
