Annual calculation and collation of Full-Time Student Equivalent (FTSE) data

Basis of FTSE data

Registered student numbers are converted into FTSEs by the application of general FTE weightings according to the type of course.

In broad terms,

• undergraduate degree and full-time diploma = 1;
• part-time undergraduate diploma = 0.5;
• full-time and part-time postgraduate degrees = 1
• full-time postgraduate diploma = 1;
• part-time postgraduate diploma = 0.5

FTSE data is based on registered student numbers as at 1st March of each academic year, as returned in student statistics to the Higher Education Authority (HEA). These statistics are normally returned to the HEA by June by the Student Records Office, following reconciliation to ensure that they present as accurate a picture as possible of student registrations as at the 1st March.
