What is the Provost's Innovation Challenge?
We are delighted to announce that we are once again running the Provost’s Innovation Challenge @ Tangent, Trinity’s Ideas Workspace.
With the Provost’s Innovation Challenge at Tangent, we offer our socially minded students the opportunity to come up with solutions to a real-world problem as part of a hackathon taking place on February 10th, 11th and 12th. There is a cash prize of €1000 for the best solution(s), to tackle the “Student Accommodation” challenge in Ireland.

We know our students want to make a positive impact on their society, and the world around them, and that’s what the Provost’s Challenge is all about. Trinity has a long-standing commitment to social innovation, which is crucial to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing society today, and to preventing global crises of the future.
As part of this, the Provost’s Innovation Challenge will provide a fun and creative environment for teams of students to work on solutions to real-world problems, while competing for a cash prize. This is also a great opportunity to meet new people, and students from different disciplines.
In 2021, the College community voted to make clothing production more sustainable, and the year before the social problem hacked was excessive reliance on plastics. This year focus will be “Student Accommodation”

It’s a hackathon, which means you’ll think creatively and critically about a global problem. You’ll brainstorm ideas, along with other passionate individuals, that could positively impact on the problem. This year’s Provost’s Innovation Challenge will take place from 10-12 February 2023.

The example we always use is this: Say the problem everyone votes for is Healthcare Inefficiencies. Solutions posed could range from a better appointment booking system for hospital appointments to an app that allows doctors to check on their patients without requiring a visit or an appointment. So the problem is big, but the solution(s) can be small (but mighty).

On the final day of the hackathon, the winning team(s) will be picked by a panel of judges. (Pitch practice sessions and advice will be offered!) The winning team will receive a cash prizeof €1000. For any further questions, contact zsamadov@tcd.ie

You have more ideas than you’d think, but don’t worry – you don’t need to know what your solution will be right now. Once you sign up to the Challenge, you will be emailed in advance of the hackathon to sign up to work on a solution if you don't have one of your own you want to work on. But first you must apply to confirm your participation.
