Postgraduate Courses
Postgraduate teaching in the French Department focuses on masters and, in particular, doctoral theses by research alone in the area of French Studies in general, with particular focus on Literature and Culture, French Language, and Textual & Visual Studies. In addition, the French Department has significant input into all four of the School of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) taught masters courses (see below).

Taught Courses
The French Department contributes to SLLCS Masters level programmes in:
- M.Phil in Textual and Visual Studies
- M.Phil in Comparative Literature
- M.Phil in Literary Translation
- M.Phil in European Studies
It also contributes to the MPhil in Medieval Language, Literature & Culture (Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies)
Postgraduate Research
The Department has an outstanding record in fostering and promoting postgraduate and postdoctoral research. There are currently about a dozen doctoral and post-doctoral research students working in the Department, nearly all of whom benefit from College or Government of Ireland (IRCHSS) funding. Former postgraduates in French are now lecturing in Universities and other institutes of higher education in Ireland, the UK, and the USA.
