Tip of the session: Returning to exercise
Returning to exercise after birth is a great way to rebuild strength and support physical health, but for many women the biggest benefits are related to mental wellbeing. It can also be a valuable opportunity to spend time with other adults and enjoy some social connection during the postpartum period.
Our tip of the week is to set aside some time for yourself to do things you enjoy and that support both your physical and mental health. In the months after giving birth, it can feel very difficult to find that time, but asking for — and accepting — help from your partner, family, or friends can help you create space to prioritise your wellbeing.
There is no one right way to do this. Find what works best for you and your lifestyle, and remember that time spent on your health and happiness is always time well spent.
Take a look at the stories shared by Moira and Naomi, which you can read or listen to, where they talk about their experiences and tips for returning to exercise after having their children.

Question of the session
Now that we have reached the end of the first session, we want you to think about a word we and the World Health Organization are using to describe women's health and wellbeing after motherhood.
Thrive
The Oxford Dictionary describes this as “to grow or develop well or vigorously” or to “prosper; flourish”.
Take a few moments to think about thriving after giving birth and during motherhood and what it means to you.
- Now, reflecting on what you have learned this session, what can help you thrive?
