Digi-ID Citizen Advisory Panel

Darren Heduan

 

My name is Darren Heduan and I am currently the chairperson of the Change Our World Self Advocacy group in Mullingar County Westmeath.

I first got interested in technology when I saw a watch for people who were blind. They could press the button and the watch would speak the time.

I realised how this small piece of technology could make people’s life easier.

I have also taken part in a project with the reader pen. This helps me to read material as the talking pen speaks the written word.

I have got a smart phone and like using WhatsApp so that I can see people when I talk to them. I am also on Facebook.

I am thrilled to have been invited to contribute to the Citizen Advisory panel.

I am no expert but more than happy to contribute and continue my learning.

There is much work to be done in this area to provide everyone who needs it with access to digital technology. The pandemic has exposed people’s vulnerability and many people have been isolated and alone.

This is a great opportunity to open technology to all those who can access it with just a little bit of support.
