Trinity South Renewal Programme

The Trinity South Renewal (TSR) Programme is a transformative initiative aimed at revitalising key academic and student facilities across Trinity College Dublin. This strategic development enhances the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (AHSS), modernises legal education infrastructure, and establishes a dedicated Student Centre, all while reinforcing Trinity’s commitment to sustainability, adaptive reuse, and energy efficiency.

Originally envisioned as a single-site expansion, TSR has evolved into a three-location refurbishment strategy, ensuring greater cost efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved student experiences. The project spans:

  • The Arts Building, a hub for the humanities and social sciences, undergoing a major refurbishment and energy retrofit to modernise its teaching, research, and study spaces.
  • Trinity Central, home to the Trinity Law School, which will be adaptively reused and upgraded to house state-of-the-art legal education and research facilities.
  • The Naughton Institute, set to become the new Student Centre, providing a vibrant, inclusive space for student activities, well-being, and engagement.

With sustainability at its core, the TSR Programme aligns with Trinity’s Climate Action Plan, reducing carbon emissions through energy retrofits, improved space utilisation, and innovative design solutions. By preserving existing structures, the project minimises embodied carbon while enhancing accessibility, flexibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Expected to be completed by 2028, TSR ensures that Trinity remains at the forefront of academic excellence, student experience, and sustainable campus development for generations to come.
