BESS – The Business, Economic and Social Studies Programme

BESS is the only university degree in Ireland where students can combine the study of Business, Economics, Political Science and Sociology. It is a uniquely flexible programme offering students 10 different degree options across these four disciplines.

BESS graduates are highly sought after by employers and many former students are now leaders in the fields of business, government, technology, the media and academia.

Students take the same modules in first year giving all students the same core grounding in the four BESS disciplines. After this students can adjust their module options to reflect their academic strengths, interests and emerging career aspirations. And in third year, many students have the opportunity to study abroad at distinguished universities around the world such as the ESSEC Business School in Paris, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Emory University in Atlanta.

Degree Options

The BESS programme provides students with a broad-based education allowing them to opt for either a single honor or joint honor degree. It also offers a high level of flexibility in two very important ways: from the second year onwards students are allowed to (a) choose the specific degree they wish to take and, (b) choose individual modules within their chosen degree path.

BESS graduates are exceptionally well regarded worldwide and they invariably tell us that the broad, flexible BESS curriculum has enabled them to build knowledge and insights that they rely on as they progress to more senior positions in their careers.
