In England, concern about speech restrictions in universities has led to an Act of Parliament to enforce a duty on universities to secure and promote free speech and academic freedom. Is this an overreaction to a fictitious problem, or a necessary measure? And are there any lessons for Higher Education in Ireland?

The speakers Dr Piers Benn (Fordham London), Professor Sarah Alyn Stacey (Trinity Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, TCD), Dr Tim Crowley (UCD) and Felice Basbøll (TCD).

There will be a Q & A session of about 45 minutes after the presentations, at which attendees will be encouraged to ask questions and freely express their views, wherever they stand on the issues.

This event is organised by Professor Sarah Alyn Stacey, Trinity Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, TCD, and Dr Piers Benn (Fordham London).
