The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS), Professor Carmel O’Sullivan, and members of the Faculty Office team, including the Faculty Administrator, Faculty HR Partner, Faculty Finance Officer, and Faculty Academic Registry Representative, visited the Belfast campus of the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies on Thursday 09 October 2025. The purpose was to visit the campus in person, to engage with staff and students, and to learn more about the campus and the work being done there.

The Belfast campus is the home of the MPhil in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation which is part of the School’s Discipline of Peace Studies.

The Dean, Professor Carmel O’Sullivan, expressed her sincere thanks for the warm hospitality the team was shown during the visit to Belfast, saying that it was a real pleasure to meet the staff and students there and learn more about the extremely important work they are doing.

Dr Gillian Wylie said: ‘as Head of School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies, I was delighted that the Dean and colleagues from the Faculty Office made the trip to visit our staff and students in Belfast. Our Provost always puts our Belfast site on her maps of Trinity, but I still meet lots of people who are surprised that Trinity has a cross-border presence through our Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation programme. The Dean and her team's enthusiasm and interest in our presence there made everyone's day’.

Members of the Faculty Office team, who took part in the visit said: ‘This was the first ever visit by the Faculty Office team to the campus and it was a great opportunity to meet our Faculty colleagues from the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies, Dr David Mitchell, Dr Brendan Ciarán Browne, Caroline Clarke, Brid O’Brien, and their students.  We joined a group of students from the Conflict Resolution Masters Programme, and we were delighted to hear their feedback, suggestions and experience of life at our Trinity Belfast Campus. The student population is very diverse coming from all around the world and bringing with them their unique and varied experiences to add to the richness of the Conflict Resolution Programme. It was a great experience overall to meet the staff and students and we look forward to meeting them all again in either TCD Dublin or in Belfast in the near future.’

Dr David Mitchell, School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies and Course-Coordinator of the MPhil in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation said: ‘We were delighted to welcome the Dean and colleagues from the FAHSS to Belfast. We are always eager to connect with staff and students based at the main campus in Dublin and spread the word about Trinity’s small but strategically important operation in Belfast. The MPhil in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation and PhD programme has been welcoming students from around the world for over twenty years to Belfast to study conflict and peace in a city which is still divided and recovering from the legacy of violent conflict. As well as making valuable connections between staff, the Faculty visit was a great way for our Belfast-based students to learn more about the huge and diverse Faculty community of which they are a part.’
