Dr Róisin Á. Costello, School of Law, has written an opinion piece on the challenges for Irish speakers in British and Irish Courts, the need to regulate language interpretation and to ‘give practical effect to the official status of Irish in courtrooms across the island’. Róisín Cunningham, PhD student, School of Psychology, is featured and quoted in an article on the news that a team of researchers at TCD ‘are looking into how messaging around handwashing during Covid-19 impacted people with obsessive-compulsive disorder’. Their recently launched study on handwashing, which it says is an ‘under-researched’ part of a ‘hidden mental health issue’ that impacts around three in every 100 people living in Ireland. Reidín Doyle, PhD student, School of Law, writes in an article about the Conor McGregor’s aims to be included on the ballot for the Irish presidential election that there is a deep irony in how those on the far right call for the circumvention of the Constitution they hold so dear, in a belief that it restricts the voice of the people. Míde Griffin, PhD Student, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, has written an article asking if young people in Ireland believe school is helping them learn computer and digital skills or not. ‘We all know teens on TikTok are good at technology, but there's more to digital skills than swiping like a pro on a smartphone. Children must be actively taught how to use computers, for studying, working, and navigating the internet safely.’ RTÉ Brainstorm 19 August 2025: Do Irish students feel schools are helping them master computer skills?

 

Dr Kristin Hadfield, School of Psychology, is featured in a news release on a recently published journal article in which she is one of the authors. It is the first ever systematic review and meta-analysis of its kind shows highly sensitive people are more likely to experience mental health problems. Dr Barra Roantree, School of Social Science and Philosophy, provides expert comment on a Newstalk podcast to discuss whether younger generations really are on course to be poorer than their parents. Professor Ian Robertson, School of Psychology, appears on radio to discuss the link between hearing loss and the risk of dementia due to cognitive effort and stress from an inability to engage in conversations due to reduction in hearing. Dr Davide Romelli, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy. Dr Romelli’s definitions used to categorise central bank independence using numerous metrics, is featured in an article on how resistance to pressure depends on the degree of independence available to a central bank. Trinity Business School features in an article about Ukrainians building new business in Ireland.
