Image of event details for Film premiere of Dumuzi's Dream and Dumuzi's Demons on 04 December 2025 at 18.30 in TCD.

You are invited to a première of the film Dumuzi's Dream and Dumuzi's Demons, performed by Trinity students in the ancient Sumerian language. The film was directed and produced by Professor Martin Worthington, School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies, and stars Olivia Romao (4th year Music) and Gwenhwyfar Ferch Rhys (4th year English/Classics).

The film will be screened with English subtitles.

The film dramatises a religious myth from Ancient Mesopotamia, in which the shepherd-god Dumuzi is carried away by underworld demons. The story opens with Dumuzi having an ill-portending dream, which is interpreted by his sister Ĝeštinana to mean that the demons are coming. After a betrayal by a friend, Dumuzi is caught. Appeals to the sun-god Utu secure his escape multiple times, but in the end night falls and destiny awaits him ...

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the actors and production team.

This event has been organised by the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies, part of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (LLCS).

This event is supported by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Events Fund.
