Evening Courses

Every year, the School of English hosts two series of Evening Lectures, which are open to all members of the public interested in exploring the world of English literature.

From October to December, the School runs a series called 'English Literature,' featuring a selection of texts drawn from the Leaving Certificate English syllabus. These lectures may be especially valuable to school pupils, but the course is designed to offer all interested members of the public a rewarding introduction to the major writers and genres of English literature.

From January to March, the School hosts a series of lectures which adopt a thematic approach to the study of literature. The chosen theme varies from year to year, offering members of the public the opportunity to consider English literary works from a variety of fresh and thought-provoking perspectives. Themes covered in recent years have included Literature and Journalism, Reading the 1950s, Literary Friendships and Literature and Revolution.
