Research Profile:

Following the completion of an undergraduate degree in Microbiology in Trinity College, Sinéad was awarded the E.C. Smith Scholarship in Pathology to carry out a two-year MSc by research in the Department of Clinical Microbiology in Trinity College. Her MSc sought to investigate the role of extracellular polysaccharides in biofilm formation of Klebsiella pneumoniae. Sinéad has joined Prof. Ross McManus’s group in TTMI as a member of the Trinity COVID-19 Genomics Hub.

COVID-19 Project:

The McManus group is focussed on the genomics and transcriptomics of COVID-19 in the Irish population and is funded through SFI funding from both the strategic partnership and by a North-south SFI funded grant supporting all-island research into the COVID-19 pandemic. Sinéad works closely with lead biorepository technician Nicole Wood and Prof Ross McManus to support biobanking efforts to collect and process COVID-19 patient samples during the current pandemic surge. Whole genome sequencing of genomic DNA and transcriptomic profiling will be carried out on banked samples. Sinéad will also assist with single cell analyses of patient immune cells that have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2.
