Research Profile:

Prof. Keane has a cellular immunology research lab which focuses on pathways of host defense in human pneumonia. This research group study alveolar macrophage function after infection, and the development of host-directed therapies to support patients during pneumonia.

COVID-19 Project: COVID-19 and pulmonary host defense

This project will define pathways of host immunity in human lungs after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Specifically, assessment of immunometabolic profile, cytokine production, and protective immune responses seen in alveolar macrophages after exposure to SARS-Co-V2 elements will be undertaken. Lead host-directed therapies will also be applied to see how we can support anti-viral myeloid function in models of human pulmonary infection.
