Research Profile:

Gareth Brady’s expertise is in the area of viral immune evasion and virus-host interactions. Whilst much of this research has focused on DNA viruses like Poxviruses and Gammaherpesviruses, recent research in the lab includes probing human immune responses to Betacoronaviruses like SARS-CoV2.

COVID-19 Project:

The research team which is based in TTMI, includes both clinical and research expertise of Dr Niall Conlon (Consultant Immunologist), Professor Cliona Ni Cheallaigh (Consultant in general medicine and Infectious Diseases), Dr William McCormack (COVID-19 Immunology program manager) and Dr Gareth Brady (Ussher Assistant Professor). Our research is primarily focused on investigating adaptive anti-viral immune response during SARS-CoV2 infection and COVID-19. Specifically, they aim to profile B- and T-Cell responses to SARS-CoV2 using virus Spike protein-based antibody seroassays and neutralisation assays recently developed in our lab. Additionally, the team plan to streamline these assays, develop T-Cell-specific tools (Flow Cytometry, ELIspot and Quantiferon-based assays) and parse vaccine responses in the post-vaccine phase of the pandemic.
