Ms Kate Harringtonkh

Kate holds a B.A. (Hons) Natural Science in Zoology, and an M.Sc. by research in Zoology, both from Trinity College Dublin. She previously worked as a research assistant in marine ecology in both Ireland and Australia , before moving to work in geotechnical and engineering consultancies on a wide range of ecological and environmental assessment projects. Most recently, she has worked as an ecologist for Irish Water with oversight of the ecological assessments required for operational, regulatory and project delivery activities. Kate’s experience of applied ecological evaluation practices motivated her to pursue research into how we value nature, both intrinsically and for the services it provides us. She commenced a PhD, supervised by Prof. Jane Stout and Prof. Fraser Mitchell, in October 2021 on the “Ecological Value and Ecosystem Services of New Native Woodland” as part of the Kinsella FOREST project. She plans to study a variety of new woodland sites that have been developed as part of the Native Woodland Scheme over the past 20 years.
