Cathcart Summer Internship Programme 2021
Following its success in 2020, we are pleased to announce that the Summer Internship Programme will run again this year at Trinity College Botanic Garden. The programme is open to students of Botany or Environmental Science in the Department of Botany at Trinity College.
Two student internship positions are being offered at the gardens from 31st May. The internships will run for six weeks and each comes with a stipend of €2000 made possible through the generous Cathcart fund to the Department of Botany. Working with the garden staff, interns will receive on-the-job training in all aspects of horticulture and plant science currently being undertaken at the gardens. Interns will assist the Curator and staff in all aspects of garden activity. There will also be an opportunity to assist in the ongoing digitisation of the living plant and genebank collections for conservation, outreach and education purposes.
This is a valuable opportunity for students to learn the practical skills associated with maintaining a botanic garden and to apply what they have learned during their course work. They will be encouraged to become integrated members of the garden team for the duration of the internship, and to seek all opportunities to observe, learn and be responsible for areas of work assigned to them.

Applications are invited from Trinity Senior Freshman students intending to undertake a Moderatorship in Botany or Environmental Science, and Junior and Senior Sophisters currently studying Botany or Environmental Science. Preference will be given to Senior Freshman and Junior Sophister applications intending to study or currently studying for a Botany moderatorship.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the start date may be delayed in accordance with government guidelines and local protocols at the time. Therefore, if offered a position, successful candidates should be available to take up the position later in the summer if necessary. We will do all we can to keep successful applicants appraised of any changing situations with the full intention of fulfilling the contract within the summer period. Please be assured that strict Covid-19 safety guidelines are in place at the gardens to ensure the safety and confidence of all working there.
To apply, please send a one page letter of motivation describing your interest in Botany and Botanic Gardens in general together with a CV detailing your skills and experience by email to Dr Michelle Murray at Trinity College Botanic Garden at email@example.com. Queries relating to the internship can be emailed directly to Michelle Murray at firstname.lastname@example.org.
