Scholarships

Trinity College Dublin offers a number of scholarship opportunities for prospective and current students interested in study or research at Ireland's leading university. Since its foundation in 1592 Trinity College Dublin has sought to assist students of limited means and reward academic achievement. Specific scholarships exist for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students from India; for prospective postgraduate students from Indian, China and Brazil through the Government of Ireland Scholarship scheme; for prospective PhD students from Brazil through the Ciência sem Fronteiras (Science Without Borders) initiative and for current students who achieve a first class result in the examination for scholarship.

Brazilian Scholarships - Ciência sem Fronteiras (Science Without Borders)

Science Without Borders is a Brazilian Government scholarship programme which aims to send 100,000 Brazilian students abroad to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics over the next 4 years.

As one of the Universities selected to take part in this scholarship scheme, Trinity College Dublin is looking forward to welcoming Brazilian students to our world class research-led University. Science Without Borders applicants at undergraduate level can participate in Trinity College Dublin's visiting student programmes. Trinity College Dublin welcomes enquires from prospective PhD students from Brazil to participate in the Science Without Borders scheme. Trinity College is one of Europe’s top research universities and offers doctoral training in many aspects of science, including physics, nanosciences, engineering, computer science, natural sciences, chemistry, biomedical sciences and mathematics.

Doctoral training is supported by discipline-specific modules, as well as training in research skills, communication skills and innovation and entrepreneurship.

The university has approximately 2,000 PhD students based in excellent research facilities. The university is in the heart of Dublin city and offers postgraduate students excellent recreation space, a modern sports centre and a full range of postgraduate student support services.

Indian Scholarships:

Undergraduate

Scholarships valued at €9,000 per year are being offered (for four years) for full-time study in a four-year degree course. The Scholarships can be for any undergraduate course offered in Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Science, Computer Science and Engineering.

Eligibility:
• The Scholarships are highly competitive and awarded on academic ability and performance in one of the following: IB, A-levels, and Class XII or equivalent examinations.
• Students must have a current offer of a place for undergraduate study at Trinity College Dublin.
• Students already studying at Trinity College Dublin are not eligible for this Scholarship.
• Applicants must be Indian nationals and not resident in the EU.

Postgraduate

Sixteen postgraduate scholarships for the year beginning September 2013 are being offered in any of the university’s taught masters courses. Five scholarships valued at €3,000 are available in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, five in the Faculty of Health Sciences and four in the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Science. A further two research scholarships valued at €6,000 per year for three years are available for full-time study on a PhD programme in any discipline.

Eligibility:
• Candidates must demonstrate academic ability and performance.  The scholarships will be competitively awarded based on the results in a relevant undergraduate degree.
• Candidates pursuing taught postgraduate courses are eligible for 14 scholarships in arts, humanities, social sciences, engineering, mathematics, science and health sciences.
• Candidates pursuing postgraduate research courses are eligible for two scholarships in engineering, mathematics and science.

Foundation Scholarship

The Foundation Scholarship is a distinctive feature of student life at Trinity College Dublin and open to all Trinity students. Students in the Senior Freshman (second) year may compete for a foundation scholarship. Up to seventy foundation scholars are elected annually on the basis of performance in the scholarship examination, which is usually held in the week before the start of the second term. Foundation scholars are entitled to certain privileges, which include having their course fees paid by the College (non-EU students pay EU fees), Commons (evening meal) free and an entitlement to College rooms free of charge during the academic year. Foundation scholarships are normally held for a term of five years. Successful candidates, those achieving an overall first class result in the examination for scholarship, are elected by the Board on Trinity Monday, which marks the beginning of the annual Trinity Week when the community celebrates high standards of achievement among students and staff.

Government of Ireland Scholarships

Five scholarships are available to postgraduate students from China (2), India (2) and Brazil (1) through the Government of Ireland Scholarship scheme.  The scholarships are being offered in any of the university’s postgraduate courses offered in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Health Sciences.  The Government of Ireland International Scholarships scheme is operated and co-funded by the Irish Government and the higher education institutions (HEIs) and includes a full tuition fee waiver and a stipend of €10,000 to cover living expenses for one year.  Individuals who are interested in applying for a scholarship at Trinity College Dublin should email indian.scholarships@tcd.ie for further information.
