A new series of exhibitions on campus launched 10th November 2014

This is the first in a new series of rotating exhibitions at the Arts Building concourse which we hope to roll out to other locations around the campus in the future. These displays aim to offer the College community and the visiting public the opportunity to experience an even greater selection of artworks from the historic, modern and contemporary art collections. These mini-exhibitions will remain for a number of months and will be accompanied by short talks and interdisciplinary events.

Kate Babineau 'The Whip', purchased 2009 for the College Gallery Art Hire Scheme

Now in its 54th year, the hire scheme returns toThe Public Theatre, its original location during the 1960s and ‘70s. New to the annual event is a focus display woven into the larger exhibition of some 120 works. Be they donated by the artist or others, or purchased after selection by the student volunteer committee specifically for the hire scheme  - the highlighted pictures will trace how students, staff, artists and donors have shaped and contributed to the modern art collection at Trinity College, from 1959 to today. A number of extra works will be shown, on loan from their current hire locations, such as the most recently acquired artworks purchased in 2012 and 2013 using hire scheme fees, including works by Dorothy Cross and Richard Mosse, who is currently representing Ireland at the Venice Biennale of International Contemporary Art.

Being a ‘pop-up’ event, the artworks will be displayed in a highly concentrated visual burst of energy, encompassing a wide variety of styles, periods and artists, shown side by side, within which is placed the special exhibition trail as the only chronological element throughout.

So come and get lost in the multi-layered effect or follow our linear lead through the show but above all enjoy!

To locate The Public Theatre: enter by principal gate at College Green, the Public Theatre is a short walk after emerging from the main archway, in the neo-classical building on the right after the inital treed lawns and before the bell tower. Map available here

Internal access only for TCD Students and Staff: Click here for further information on the hire scheme
