Alumni Interview

Pádraic Delaney
Course Name: Theatre Studies
Year of Graduation: 2001
What are you doing with yourself these days?
Auditioning for jobs! It's pilot season in the U.S. and soon I'll go to LA and NY for a few weeks. When I get back, there will be another series of Raw to do and a film to promote called Blackthorn, a western starring Sam Shepard. In that film I play The Sundance Kid.
Why did you choose your current career?
Because I love acting. It makes me happy. And life is too short.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Watching films! Before I realised I had to be an actor, I was a big fan of films. That hasn't changed since. I also read a lot - it’s one of the most important ways for actors to maintain a healthy imagination. I love keeping fit and healthy too and go to the gym or run or do something physical every day.
What are your strongest memories of Trinity?
I'll always remember the view from the dance studio at the top of the Beckett Centre- you could see right out over the Rugby pitch and Cricket field towards the Pav and onto the rooftops of Nassau St and Westland Row - beautiful on a sunny day.
Are you still in touch with other alumni?
I'm still in touch with several class mates who continue to tread the boards themselves; you come across graduates of the Beckett Centre and former members of Players working consistently in all areas of theatre, television and film. Some of my friends are Trinity graduates who I still meet up with from time to time for lunch....or a few pints....
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
Happy and healthy and surrounded by people I love and who love me.
