Michael Ort's research interests include physical volcanology of explosive eruptions, basaltic to rhyolitic, small to large, and shallow crustal petrology related to volcanic eruptions. He uses many techniques, including field data, tephra characteristics, geochemistry, and rock magnetism, to study these eruptions
