Congratulations to Venina Svetli Kalistratova, Junior Sophister student in Classics, on the award of a prestigious Trinity College Foundation scholarship. Provost Patrick Prendergast announced the elections to scholarship and fellowship in the traditional ceremony on Trinity Monday, April 16th 2012.

The Department of Classics gratefully acknowledges the gift from Professor Niall Rudd of over eight hundred Classics books. Niall Rudd, TCD Alumnus and Scholar, is Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool. He is one of the finest readers of Latin and English poetry in the twentieth century and up to this day.

Dr Hazel Dodge is an AIA (Archaeological Institute of America) Kress Lecturer for 2010-2011. She will deliver a series of lectures in North America on the following topics: ‘Roman spectacle in the Greek East’, ‘Symbols of Victory and Colours of Power: Egyptian Stones for the City of Rome’, and ‘Rulership, Patronage and Architecture in the Roman Capital’. Professor John Dillon, Emeritus Professor Greek, was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens on June 15th, 2010, in recognition of his significant and original contribution to the study of Greek philosophy.
