The back cover features a depiction of James Connolly by Jim Fitzpatrick (the artist behind the famous Che Guevara portrait) commissioned by the 'Reclaim the Spirit of Easter 1916' committee. The graphic images designed by Sonia Slevin enhance the publication. The principal essay, A celebration of James Connolly & the Irish Citizens Army, was written by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. The essay An introduction on sources on the Irish Citizens Army, as well as Mary McAuliffe's essay on Women, radical politics & the 1916 Rising, investigate labour history of the period.

Notably, this distinctive volume of Saothar ('work' in English) received three launches in Dublin, Belfast and Glasgow throughout 2016.
