Book Club: The Impostor by Javier Cercas, translated from the Spanish by Frank Wynne. 18:30, 36 Fenian Street.

Translated from Spanish by award-winning translator Frank Wynne, The Impostor is a true story. Who is Enric Marco? A veteran of the Spanish Civil War, a fighter against fascism, an impassioned campaigner for justice, and a survivor of the Nazi death camps? Or, is he simply an old man with delusions of grandeur, a charlatan who fabricated his heroic war record, who was never a prisoner in the Third Reich and never opposed Franco, but a charming, beguiling and compulsive liar who refashioned himself as a defender of liberty and who was unmasked in 2005 at the height of his influence and renown?

Culture Night: Terry Pratchett and Trinity College. 18:30-22:30 at the Trinity Long Room Hub.

We will be celebrating Trinity College Dublin's special relationship with fantasy author, Terry Pratchett. Library cataloguers will illustrate the evolution of Pratchett's work; Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural translation will look at how Pratchett's quirky sense of humour went global; scholars from Children's Literature will delve into Pratchett's writing for young readers; partners from Trinity Centre for Digital Humanities will explore Pratchett's work with technology; and, recalling Pratchett's life with Alzheimer's disease, researchers from Trinity Brain Health and the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland will myth-bust dementia and explain how "it is possible to live well with dementia and write best-sellers like wot I do."
