IEHN Network Meeting - Shen Hou - 17 November 2016

IEHN Meetings

17th November, 2015, Trinity College Dublin

The 24th Public Lecture & Meeting of the Irish Environmental History Network featured a talk by Professor Shen Hou, History Department, Renmin University of China, Beijing, entitled "Nature Modernized: An Environmental History of the Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve".

Brief Description: "The Yellow River has flowed through the core of Chinese history for thousands of years, but the point where it enters the ocean, its delta, offers both new land and a new subject for environmental historians. Particularly over the past two decades, the great delta has been the site of considerable controversy over wildlife preservation, including such migratory species as the red-crowned crane, one of China’s most charismatic species. This talk will address changing ideas in nature conservation against the background of Chinese history."

The event took place from 6 to 7pm, Tuesday, November 17th, in the Davis Lecture Theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin, and was Chaired by Dr. Charles Travis.
