Constantia Maxwell scholarship for Postgraduate courses in Applied Intercultural Communications.


Named after the first female academic staff member at Trinity College Dublin, this scholarship provides an award of €3,000 towards the fees of a Certificate, Diploma or Master’s degree in Applied Intercultural Communications.

Constantia Maxwell
(1886-1962) was the first female member of the teaching staff in Trinity, first appointed in 1909 as an assistant to the Professor of Modern History, then appointed to a lectureship in 1911 until 1939,  when she was first granted a personal Chair in Economic History and on 6 June 1945 was elected as the first woman to hold the prestigious Lecky Chair in modern history, which she held until her retirement in 1951.


Award: 1 Scholarship valued at 3,000 euros, applied as a financial contribution towards the tuition fees for the Certificate, Diploma and Master’s degree in Applied Intercultural Communications.
Who can apply: all applicants to Certificate, Diploma and Master’s degree in Applied Intercultural Communications
Selection criteria: The scholarship will be awarded based on the merit of the overall application.
Scholarship application documents
Applicants wishing to be considered for the Contantia Maxwell scholarship are required to submit a Cover letter outlining their full name, their application number (assigned when the application is submitted), indicating the name of the scholarship and a brief statement (max 1 page) detailing how they would benefit from this award.

Scholarship Application Process
Closing date for the Trinity International Foundation Programme Scholarship applications is 30th June 2023. Please note that this is a month prior to the close of applications.
Please submit your scholarship application as follows:

  • Subject line: your name + Maxwell Scholarship
  • You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of scholarship request
  • No further communication until scholarship awards are made; awards will be made and the successful candidate informed no later than 31st July 2023
  • The decision to accept the scholarship is required by 10th August 2023. The scholarship award will be confirmed with acceptance of your offer to attend TCD and payment of your deposit.
  • You will be responsible for formally accepting the scholarship offer by email reply to: CGIC@tcd.ie
  • Acknowledgement of receipt of scholarship acceptance will come within 72 hours
  • A non-response from you will be considered as declining the offer, but we would prefer receiving confirmation either way.
