RESEARCH INTEREST:

Ancient genetic disease: Disease is a key evolutionary pressure, as it impacts survival and ability to reproduce (i.e. fitness). There are considerable differences in Mendelian disease allele frequency across populations, which may be related to population dynamics in the past. Ancient genomics is useful here as it captures variation over time rather than inferring the history of disease alleles from modern data, which only captures a subset of past events. Furthermore, the identification of individuals with disease is of archaeological interest as it can be revealing about how past societies cared for sick individuals. Characterising genetic disease of phenotypically affected ancient individuals is also of interest to me.
