Printing House
The Printing House was commissioned in 1734 under Provost Richard Baldwins tenure (1717 - 1758). The little Doric temple-fronted building is the third oldest building on campus and housed Dublin University Press from 1735 until 1976. Today it is getting ready to house the Book of Kells, one of the finest and most famous group of manuscripts in the world.
The enanbling works began in 2023. The brief was to carry out a full internal strip out and to restore the fabric of the building fully including a full re-roof with salvaged blue bangor slates, restoration of existing timber sash windows, full restoration and cleaning of all masonry stone, re-instatement of original opes on the East Elevation and a full clean and restoration of the front portico and pilasters. The building is now getting fitted out internally to home the worlds most famous illuminated manuscript and become part of the Book of Kells Experience.
